How much water should you drink a day?

A healthy body alarm us when we feel thirsty and  dehydrate

Whether you’ve had fatigue, you’ve probably been told to drink more water as a cure. But this advice comes from decades-old guidance… and may more have no scientific basis.

In the 19th Century, people had to be close to death before deigning to drink water. Only those survived  to the last stage of poverty satisfy their thirst with water,

Many people had never drunk more than half a pint of plain water in one sitting.

Many of we believe we should drink at least eight glasses of water a day

Fuelling this appetite for water is the “8x8 rule”: the unofficial advice recommending we drink eight 240ml glasses of water per day, totaling just under two liters, on top of any other drinks.

That rule”, however, isn’t backed by scientific findings, official guidelines say we should be drinking this much. As the current pandemic took hold people were advised to tap a sip of warm water every 15 minutes to protect against the virus – advice that has no basis in fact.

In 1945 the Nutrition Board of the National Research Council advised adults to consume one milliliter of liquid for every recommended calorie of food, which equates to two liters for women on a 2,000-calorie diet and two-and-a-half for men eating 2,500 calories. Not just water also included most types of drinks – as well as fruits and vegetables' which can contain up to 98% of water.

According to the guiders, your daily allotment of liquids could include fruits and vegetables. Some say that we should drink 8 glasses of water, others that we need two liters, and others something more especially now that it is summer.

However, the question remains: How much water should we drink a day?

8-10 glasses or two liters is a myth, as, according to experts, everyone has different needs that depend on factors such as height, weight, health problems, etc. So, it makes sense, one 45 kg man not to drink the same amount of water as one who is 86.

A very easy way to calculate how many liters of water you should drink a day is to divide your weight by the number 30. If for example, you are 60 kg, you should drink two liters of water a day, while if you are 80 kg, you should drink 2.6 liters a day.

Water is extremely important for the proper functioning of the body and does not forget that during the summer months the body's needs for hydration increase.
